Always keeping the environment and community in mind, Novelis is the worldwide leader in rolled aluminum products, delivering unique solutions for the most demanding global applications, such as beverage cans, automobiles, architecture, and consumer electronics. Novelis, the leading supplier of aluminum across the region, also serves as the headlining sponsor for the Supermodified division.
“It was another successful season with roughly 116,000 cans being collected over just three events,” said Novelis Finance Lead and Fan Can Chase Coordinator Tom Salvador. “We are extremely grateful for the fans continued efforts over the years and happy to partner with Oswego Speedway to spread our message regarding the importance of recycling aluminum.”
While can collection race nights play a large role in fundraising efforts, the speedway also donates all cans purchased at the speedway by race fans to the overall yearly total, which will continue to be collected through the 61st running of Budweiser Classic Weekend along with NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week. The total amount of money raised will be revealed at the end of the calendar year.
Pending final count from can and bottle return, the Larkin family has repeated as ‘Fan Can Chase’ champions in 2017 with Jim Larkin leading the front at an astounding 18,110 cans. Mary Spaulding was runner-up at 6,722 cans with Ricky Pritchard completing the top three at 6,050 cans. All three families were also on the podium at the conclusion of the 2016 Fan Can Chase. The remaining top twelve will be announced in the near future.
Larkin will have his choice at (2) 2018 regular season pit passes, (2) 2018 regular season reserved seat tickets or (2) 2018 regular season SkyDeck passes for winning the Fan Can Chase. Spaulding will have her choice at the two remaining prizes while Pritchard will earn the final prize. Fans representing households from positions four through twelve in the running will all receive 2017 grandstand general admission for two on Saturday and Sunday of Budweiser International Classic Weekend.
With the regular season now in the books at the speedway, Classic Weekend action gets started on Friday, September 1 as Central New York Chevy Dealers ‘Pole Day’ Qualifying will take place for the Supermodifieds and Small Block Supers, with the top ten SBS drivers being locked into the big dance, while the first eighteen fastest qualifiers will have the chance to automatically reserve their spot in the richest and most prestigious Supermodified race in the world. A ‘Party in the Pits’ featuring a performance by Dirtroad Ruckus will conclude the evening’s on-track program.
