Global Engagement Hour: "Iconoclasm as Spectacle and War Crime." Lisa Langlois of SUNY Oswego's art department will speak on "Iconoclasm as Spectacle and War Crime: The Self-proclaimed Islamic State's Destruction of Antiquities in Context" by Lisa Langlois of SUNY Oswego's art department. On Aug. 25, ISIL obliterated the Temple of Baalshamin in Palmyra, Syria, playing upon stereotypes of religious extremists as iconoclasts in order to obscure the economic and political underpinnings of extreme power. This panel opens a conversation about the destruction of art and architecture as a military tactic. Free and open to the public; parking for those without a campus parking sticker is $1 -- see oswego.edu/administration/parking.http://www.oswego.edu/ige 312-3647. 12:30 p.m., Room 220, Marano Campus Center.
