Silent Movie Series
Sunday, April 24, 2016, 04:00pm - 05:00pm
The Oswego Players, Inc. will inaugurate a silent movie series, starting on Sunday, April 24 at 5 pm with a showing of the D.W. Griffith epic film "Way Down East" in the Frances Marion Brown Theater. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted at the door.

The movie version of "Way Down East" was adapted from the play of the same name by Oswegonian Lottie Blair Parker. Parker sold the rights to the play to New York theater owner-producer William Brady who in turn sold the movie rights to Griffith for $175,000 in 1920. The epic two and one half hour long film starred Lillian Gish as the young Anna Moore, who in the climactic scene of the movie is nearly carried away on an ice flow during a winter blizzard.

The film will be shown on a large screen purchased through a grant from J.P. Jewelers. Popcorn, soda, water and other snacks will be available in the lobby of the theater. There is an intermission in the middle of the film.

The Frances Marion Brown Theater is located  in the Oswego Civic Arts Center in Fort Ontario Park.
