On Saturday, September 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, at 8:00 PM, Corey King will lead moonlight lantern tours of the Post Cemetery at Fort Ontario State Historic Site. Each tour is unique and describes the lives, deaths and legends of the 77 men, women, and children interred in the Post Cemetery. Mr. King will also discuss the cemetery's history, military grave markers, commemorative monuments and unsuccessful efforts by the U.S. Army to remove the bodies.
Tour Tickets are available by advance reservation and cost $15.00. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards improving interpretation and infrastructure at the Post Cemetery by the non-for-profit Friends of Fort Ontario. Tour participants will learn about the everyday lives and deaths of those who died at Fort Ontario from the French and Indian War through World War II. Sometimes their ends were tragic, sometimes heroic, but most always their deaths were heartbreaking for families and comrades in arms.
Post Cemetery Lantern Tours will assemble at the parking lot overlooking Lake Ontario. To reach the cemetery, go through the fort's main parking lot with the flag poles and follow the road to the upper parking lot. Post Cemetery is located on the right. To purchase tickets, or for more information, contact Fort Ontario by calling 315-343-4711, or email Corey King at [email protected].
Fort Ontario State Historic Site is located at the north end of East Fourth Street in the City of Oswego, New York.
