Navigating the Calendar
We get it! There's a lot to see here. That's why we've added a number of ways for you to find what you're looking for... and to browse smarter.
- To view event listings by town or city, use the Location Filter to the right.
- Browse by event type by clicking on the category you'd like to see more of; for example, clicking on "Free" will pull up all calendar entries that you do not have to pay to participate in.
- You can also type in keywords into the calendar's search bar, such as "yoga" or "bingo."
Karl Sperber is a sometimes-songwriter who suffers from a compulsion to play any instrument he likes the sound of. As a result, along with several types of guitar, he performs on percussion, flute, harmonica, electronic wind instrument, and bass. His current bands are "Kanjira", which presents original and jazz-oriented arrangements, and has been performing in CNY for over 10 years, and "Carl and Karl", a duo so new it's repertoire is still secret (even to him). Karl is a fan of rock icon "Sting" and plans to use this open mic to gauge audience reaction to his plan to change his name to "Slap."
Open Mic Friday will now include a songwriting contest. To enter, just put an asterisk by your name and our judges will select a winner at the end of each night. Winners will receive a free ticket to The Hook and will compete in the playoffs on Nov. 30th and April 26th for a chance to perform at our Finale on May 11th (plus other prizes to be announced).
