It is hard to believe that the Inspiration: Festival of Nature and the Arts, is still going strong 23 years after then director John Weeks had the “inspiration.”

What started as a modest celebration of local musicians and artists has grown into one of Sterling Nature Center’s signature events with the proceeds going to developing trails and programs. This year’s Inspiration, scheduled from 11-4:30 on Sunday, June 2 and has added significance, as the Friends of the Sterling Nature Center embark on fundraising for a new center.

For the past 23 years, this day of art, readings, crafts, music and nature has drawn from local and regional sources. Back this year on the main stage will be The Cadleys, a treasure from last year’s Inspiration. One of the most popular acoustic bands in the Northeast, John and Cathy Cadley show how two voices blended in seamless harmony can produce one powerful sound. The Cadleys perform everything from mountain ballads and bluegrass including John’s original song “Time” which spent time atop the national bluegrass charts. Joining them will be the duo of Eileen and Shirley whose fresh air sound of mountain dulcimer and guitar will have you tapping your toes and singing along.

Inspiration will include a Children’s Tent with an abundance of children’s activities and featuring Connie Evans, author of "Charlotte's Big Dream," and "Sawyer's Promise." Connie will do reading and bring her inspiration for the stories, Charlotte, the pit bull and Sawyer, the yellow lab. There will also be a crafts fair, a bake sale, a silent auction/raffle and barbeque beef sandwich and other delights to round out the day’s activities.
