When Dan Deuty brought his family back to visit his hometown of Phoenix last fall, he brought something very special to share with his grandfather Ray Harke’s neighbors, John and Susan Lynch and Schroeppel Historical Society President Barbara Dix. He had recently discovered a collection of Harke and Brown photo albums, some of which went back 100 years. Barbara Dix and Susan Lynch were very impressed by the quality and poignancy of the photos, and it struck them that Dan himself was very moved by having been unexpectedly plunged into his own family history. The collection of stark black and white photos still revealed warm bonds among family and friends, youthful enthusiasm and romance, and children caught in happy moments, all set against backgrounds of Phoenix the way it was in earlier times. Dan knows most of the stories behind these photos, but they would still be fetching, even if the subjects were unknown. We invite you to attend Dan’s program on Monday, June 24, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schroeppel Historical Society. The program is free and donations are greatly appreciated.
