Hiram Lodge #136 invites all interested Brothers and Masons to attend our first Lodge Lecture. The lectures are meant to provide education and discussion for all Masons on a different monthly topic relating to Freemasonry. These are FREE to attend, and light refreshments will be provided.
Leadership Development in Freemasonry
The modern definition of Freemasonry “is an organized society of men, symbolically applying the principles of Operative Masonry and architecture to the science and art of character building.” We are trying to use the old methods to make good men better. We try to place an emphasis on the individual man by strengthening his character; improving his moral and spiritual outlook; and broadening his mental horizons. Much of this philosophy is very similar to modern theories and practices for leadership skill development of an individual. Although Freemasons have been educating men for hundreds of years, modern leadership development has only existed for a few decades. The question remains if hundreds of years of teachings align with contemporary and modern business and societal practices. We will discuss Masonic leadership teachings in comparison to modern leadership skill training to explore both concepts and help to develop each person as a better Brother and Mason.
The speaker and facilitator will be Joe Stabb, Ph.D. TE, APR. Stabb is an assistant professor at SUNY Oswego, where he teaches courses in public relations, social media, and leadership development. He has experience in marketing communications, public relations, business development, organizational development, and leadership development. Stabb is a graduate from Utica College of Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, a Master’s of Science degree from Keuka College in Management, and has a Doctoral degree in Leadership and Policy from Niagara University. He also holds an advanced certificate in international trade and commerce (TE) from the World Trade Center Association and his accreditation in public relations (APR) from the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Stabb is also an active member of Tigris Shriners (Syracuse) and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite (Valley of Syracuse, NMJ).
