Planetarium show: "Laying Eyes on the Unseen"
Sunday, November 10, 2019, 07:00pm - 08:00pm

eyes on unseen

In April of 2019, scientists working with the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration released the first ever images of the regions surrounding two distinct black holes to the public. Their appearances confirmed Albert Einstein’s conjectures concerning how they look, assuming his theory of General Relativity and gravitation were correct. This show will discuss what black holes are, how they form and why it takes a telescope the size of Earth to see black holes in any sort of detail. There will be a special emphasis on the newly released images of the supermassive black holes: what they are, how scientists imaged them, and why they look like they do.
