On Sept. 26th the Pre-Health Care Club held its first Fight Ataxia Together (F.A.T.) 5k to raise donations and awareness for Friedreich’s Ataxia disorder. The 5k run had roughly around 100 runners and collectively raised over $11,000 dollars!

“The run was held on campus and after there was an after party at The Shed.” Stated Iain Thompson. Iain Thompson is the President of the Pre-Health Care Club along with Lisa Scharder set up the 5k. Lisa Scharder’s son Patrick has the disorder and Iain trains Patrick on a regular basis at Stability Fitness. Lisa not only helped set up the race but also helped in getting donations from places like Mark’s Pizzeria, Midnight Sun, Bame’s Liquor and Canales Restaurant.

Thompson wanted to thank all those who came out for the run. “Most people who ran donated on top of their participation fee.” Said Thompson. Thompson also wanted to thank all the businesses who donated, SUNY Oswego for allowing the run to take place and thank those in the Pre-Health Care Club who helped out.
