Write a commentOswego Players director, Bobby Fontana, has a fondness for the classics.
This time around he has dug up an oldie but goody in Gore Videl's 1960 "The Best Man." This political drama is touted to be one of Vidal's best plays. It saw a short-lived revival last year at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, starring, among others, James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, John Stamos and Angela Lansbury. The reviews varied between wonderful and terrible, but then again, armchair critics didn't have the option of posting their opinions to the internet back in 1960.
A newcomer to the Players, Aaron Locke Londraville, plays Dick Jensen, a character referred to by the director as a "weasel." The Jenson role is that of a campaign manager who will pull out all the stops to get his man elected.
Londraville describes himself as a writer, director and performer with a fondness for the eccentric and a captivation with the bizarre. His work as a playwright runs a gambit of topics including, but by no means limited to, parallel universes, old comedy, quantum suicide, the nature of time and space, the love lives of humanoid insectoids, the trials of Galileo, identity, the supernatural, mental health or stability, and singing mutant teenagers. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego, majoring in theater and cinema, with a minor in creative writing. His acting credits include Douglas Panch from the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Borachio from Much Ado About Nothing.
Other cast members include Kyle Walton, Amy Price, Nick Pike, Beverly Murtha, Sara Sheffield and Jacob Luria. In addition, Norman Berlin, III, Kevina Schleicher, Spring Pigeon, Michael Moss, Heather Steel, Shane Craig and Tammy Wilkinson.
Production dates are at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 12, 13 and 19 , 20, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 21. Tickets are $10/adults, $8/seniors and $7/students. Reservations are recommended and can be made at the Players' Box Office 315-343-5138.
