The performance, in Sheldon Hall ballroom, will begin at 7:30 p.m. A preconcert talk is scheduled at 7.

     The New Yorker described Daedalus as "one of the finest young groups to emerge in our current golden age of string quartets."

     Performing together for more than 11 years, the quartet in 2007 earned the Lincoln Center's Martin E. Segal Award and Chamber Music America's Guarneri String Quartet Award. From Carnegie Hall to the Cite de la Musique in Paris, Daedalus has performed in many of the world's leading musical venues.

     The repertoire is set to include Joan Tower's "White Water" and Ludwig van Beethoven's "String Quartet, Op. 127," while Barach – who teaches music history and literature at SUNY Oswego – will join Daedalus to play second viola for Mozart's "String Quintet No. 1, K. 174."

     This will be Barach's first time performing for the Ke-Nekt series. While he has played viola for more than 60 years, he tore a ligament in his wrist a few years ago, after suffering a strain while playing the viola, and had reconstructive surgery.

     "It's very stressful playing the viola," Barach said. The viola is a large string instrument that causes performers to stretch the wrist for long periods of time, he said. Barach now uses a specially designed viola called a cutaway so he does not strain his wrist.

      Tickets are $15 ($12 for those ages 62 and older, students ages 17 and younger and SUNY Oswego faculty and staff; $6 for SUNY Oswego students). Tickets are available at all SUNY Oswego box offices, online at tickets.oswego.edu and by phone at 315-312-2141.

     The cost of parking is included in the ticket price and available in lots across from and adjacent to Sheldon Hall.
