
August F. Gentile Jr., 71, of Oswego, passed away August 30, 2015 at St. Luke Health Services.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late August and Pearl (Kiernan) Gentile. He attended Oswego Schools and graduated Oswego High in the class of 1962. He was a member of the sons of American Legion and served as its Commander and Finance Officer for a number of years, he was one of the original charter members. He managed the American Legion Little League team for ten years and won the league and city championship in 1981. Augie was a collector of NASCAR die-cast models and of beer mugs and steins. He enjoyed attending car shows with his 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo and received numerous awards.
Surviving are his son, August F. (Kathleen) Gentile III, of Oswego; two brothers, Anthony (Felicia) Gentile and Mark (Janice) Gentile, both of Oswego; three sisters, Cynthia Caracci; Patricia (Bob) Brace; Michelle (Mark) Bailey; a grandson Austin Gentile; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Longley) Gentile and a grandson Brady Gentile.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
