Betty J. Dowdle, in her 89th year on July 10, 2015.
She was born in Oswego to John J. and Charlotte E. Reed. Betty graduated from St. Paul’s School, Oswego High school at the age of 16 and from Oswego State University, then named Oswego Normal School.
Betty taught in the Oswego City School District. She taught in the Oak Hill School, the Mitchell Street School, Kingsford Park School and retired as the reading Teacher at Leighton Elementary School. During the summer Betty taught reading in the graduate program at SUNY Oswego for many years.
On August 25, 1952 Betty married William Q. Dowdle. Together they lived in Oswego until their retirement when they started spending the winter in Sarasota, FL. They enjoyed their home in Florida for 28 years.
Bill predeceased Betty on January 7, 2014.
Betty is survived by her loving children William R., Elizabeth Roller and her husband Kenneth, James M. and his wife Katherine, her cherished grandchildren Brian W. Dowdle, Meghan M. Dowdle, DPT, Patrick S. Dowdle, ESQ and Caroline L. Dowdle. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law Jack and Marjorie Reed and brother in law James H. Dowdle and his wife Barbara.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00am St. Paul’s Church.
