After a solid qualifying effort, which saw Thompson time trial at 16.579-seconds and finish second to Otto Sitterly in heat racing action, Thompson started the night’s finale in the third position behind Aric Iosue and Dave Danzer.

Thompson held third early before eventual winner, Michael Barnes, stormed to the outside on his way to the front. From there, Thompson battled hard inside of the top five with title contenders Otto Sitterly and Dave Shullick Jr., before his No. 98 machine began to lose brakes, sending the 16-year old to the pit area for a 14th place finish.

Despite the DNF, Thompson still stands inside of the top ten in the Novelis Supermodified driver’s standings with only two races remaining before Budweiser International Classic Weekend August 31 – September 2.

Thompson book ended his Oswego action with Sportsman events at Brewerton and Utica-Rome Speedways over the weekend.

After clocking in fifth quick of 32 cars during hot laps at Brewerton Speedway on Friday night, rained washed away the remainder of the evening.

On Sunday at Utica-Rome, Thompson was seventh quick during the day and finished second in his heat race, but came up short in the main event with a 16th place result.

Thompson and Jason Simmons Racing return to action this weekend with a return trip to Brewerton Speedway on Friday, August 10 followed by another run at Oswego on Saturday, August 11.
