November 7th 2021, 1:45pm, the Grist Mill Restaurant in Parish will host Larry Sharpe as he meets long-time supporters and newer voters curious about a different option not belonging the two major parties.
As many New Yorkers are still reeling from last year’s lockdowns, Oswego County residents are eager for viable solutions.
Starting in March of this year, Larry Sharpe, 53, has visited communities around New York City where he resides, and in farther flung places Upstate. Sharpe is comfortable campaigning outside of urban centers because it reinforces his message of localism.
“What programs work in Brooklyn may not be the right answer for Oswego County, but of course bureaucrats in Albany will never admit that. This is why counties should have a greater say in how they spend their own money.” Not confining his message of localism to governmental budgets, Sharpe proposes exempting local businesses from compliance with burdensome federal regulations.
“States like Wyoming are already doing this for certain industries. If your business crosses no state lines and you’re willing to forego federal certifications, then that should be your choice as long as you’re transparent to the public about it.”
Like the businessman he is, Sharpe is not the originator of many of the solutions he proposes, but leverages ideas from the worlds of business and finance. Back in 2018 during his first run for Governor, he netted nearly 100K votes, the highest vote count for a Libertarian Party candidate in New York. Since then, people have been echoing his ideas, such as naming rights on public infrastructure leased to local companies. By coming to Oswego County this November, Sharpe wants to hear voters’ concerns firsthand, and to have more discussions about solutions not dependent on government.
