In appreciation of the nation's military, SUNY Oswego will welcome veterans, active duty, Guard or Reserves service members to attend the Friday, Nov. 20, men's ice hockey game, with a guest, for free.

The college will also hold a Veterans Organization Resource Fair as an opportunity for members of the military to speak with representatives of more than a dozen helping organizations throughout the region.

Military Appreciation Night will enhance the hockey action as the nationally ranked Lakers skate against SUNY Morrisville in Marano Campus Center arena. The fair will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue during breaks in the 7 p.m. game.

Attendees with identification -- military ID, Veterans Administration card, DD 214 certificate of discharge and so on -- can pick up their tickets in advance or at the game in Marano Campus Center box office.

"We put this event together because there is nothing like this for veterans in Oswego County," said Ben Parker, veteran and military services coordinator for the college's Division of Extended Learning. "We have experience connecting our veteran students to all the resources out there -- this special evening is an extension of that."

Parker said arrangements are underway to recognize the military before and during the hockey game, including a color guard and a special video tribute. Additionally, the college has ordered small U.S. flags that the SUNY Oswego Veterans Club will hand out to all fans.

Organizations that have committed to attend include SUNY Oswego Veteran and Military Services, Oswego County Veterans Agency, Clear Path for Veterans, the Syracuse VA Medical Center, Easter Seals NY Military and Veteran Services, the state Division of Veterans' Affairs, Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Feed Our Vets, Syracuse Vet Center, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and Team Red, White and Blue.

Parking for the game is free with a game ticket. For more information and a campus map, visit oswego.edu/militaryevent.
