The ensemble, hailed as "... a tour de force" by The Frankfurter Allemeine, will appear at 7 p.m. in Sheldon Hall ballroom, with SUNY Oswego associate professor and pianist Robert Auler as host.
     Hailed by the American Record Guide as "a consummate ensemble gifted with utter musicality and remarkable interpretive power," the quartet brings a repertoire that will include Ludwig van Beethoven's "Quartet in F Major, Op. 18, No. 1," Benjamin Britten's "Quartet No. 2" and Robert Schumann's "Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op.44," with Auler participating.
     Ariel String Quartet, founded in Israel 10 years ago, has for the past year been quartet-in-residence at the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music. The group earned a number of international awards, including the grand prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (2006) and first prize at the international competition "Franz Schubert and The Music Of Modernity" in Graz, Austria (2003).
     Tickets cost $15 ($12 for seniors ages 60 and over and SUNY Oswego faculty and staff; $6 for SUNY Oswego students) and are available online at tickets.oswego.edu, by phone at 312-2141 or at any SUNY Oswego box office.
