Nicotra Racing, five times a Novelis Supermodified championship squad at Oswego Speedway with Otto Sitterly behind the wheel, is looking to secure Sitterly his seventh overall drivers' title in 2014 while also fielding part time rides for Hamilton and Shullick.
Early dates for Nicotra Racing's guest driver appearances include the 53rd annual Novelis Supermodified Kick-Off on Saturday, May 10 with Hamilton at the controls, along with the return of 'Shoe 2' for the Jim Shampine Memorial 75-lapper on Saturday, May 24.
"The perfect plan is to have Davey (Hamilton) back at Oswego for the opener and DJ (Shullick) in the Shampine Memorial," said Nicotra Racing team owner, John Nicotra. "All of this of course is subject to change at any time as we see fit in order to provide Otto (Sitterly) all he needs to contend for another Speedway title."
Hamilton will be looking to defend his opening night win from 2013, which saw the Indianapolis 500 veteran race to his first Novelis Supermodified victory at Oswego Speedway since claiming the 1997 Budweiser International Classic 200 driving for Mike Muldoon.
After reaching victory lane in May of last season, the Boise, ID native returned to the Speedway for three more events in 2013 with another podium finish coming on July 20 in the 100-lap Race of Champions Supermodified special.
Hamilton would go on to time second fastest for the 57th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 outside of Oswego, NY driver Pat Lavery on Labor Day Weekend, but would end the day in the outside wall on lap 144 as a result of a collapsed rear wing element.
Shullick, the current winged Supermodified track record holder at Oswego Speedway with a lap of 14.972 seconds at just over 150mph, became the first driver to dip below the 15-second barrier at the Speedway last Classic Weekend during Saturday time trials for the Bud Light ISMA Super Nationals behind the wheel of the Jim Bodnar built No. 94.
That same weekend, Shullick made his debut with Nicotra Racing driving the No. 2, qualifying 12th fastest for the Budweiser International Classic 200.
After running just outside the top five for much of the afternoon, contact with a lapped car caused the spline to pull out of the steering, dropping Shullick out at lap 109.
The North Ridgeville, OH driver returned to the Speedway for the Novelis Supermodified Fall Championship just two weeks later, rebounding with a solid seventh place effort.
The son of five time Novelis Supermodified feature winner and three time Budweiser International Classic 200 poles sitter, Dave Shullick Sr., 'Shoe 2' looks to continue his father's non-wing Supermodified legacy at the 'Steel Palace.'
"I'm looking forward to running more at the Big O this year," said Shullick. "I love racing at Oswego Speedway. At last year's Classic we had the best non-wing car I have ever driven; thanks to John Nicotra, Otto Sitterly, Joe Hawksby Jr. and the entire crew."
Shullick Jr. has three career Supermodified wins at Oswego Speedway, all coming in winged Supermodified competition.
More Novelis Supermodified race dates for open-wheel veterans Hamilton and Shullick will be announced as they become available.
Mark your calendars for the month of May at Oswego Speedway as the ultrafast ISMA Supermodifieds open the schedule on Saturday, May 3 with the Novelis Supermodified opener coming one week later on Saturday, May 10.
