Easy Access to St. Joseph’s Friday Night Bingo

Friday night bingo at St. Joseph's Church can now accommodate people of various abilities.

Thanks to dedicated students of the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, a brand new ramp was recently installed in the church basement at 240 West First St., Oswego. Frequent bingo player and parishioner Donna Day sought the help from CiTi's business education liaison, Garrette Weiss. He and CiTi math teacher Ryan Wood worked with students on measuring the stairwell and landing in order to construct the ramp that met the Americans with Disabilities Act code.

Students led the project to determine how much wood, paint, screws, nails and other supplies were needed. They donated their time, while they gained hands-on learning experience, and saved the church labor costs. St. Joseph's covered the cost for materials. Church custodian Peter Geary assisted with the installation.

Collective community support is what keeps the church thriving. Now, the church will be able to welcome more community members to bingo. Everyone is welcome to join the fun when doors open, beginning at 5 p.m. each Friday. Bingo papers are sold, beginning at 6 p.m. and gaming begins at 7 p.m. Prizes amount to at least $1,350. Players must be at least 18 years old.

The church invites local adults to join their bingo celebrations and visit the concession stand to purchase delicious goods. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa are served free of charge.
