In his first year racing at the speedway, Flack entered a total of eight main events in addition to the 27th Bud Light Classic 75. His best finish came in the Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS 35 held on July 21 in which he drove to a 14th place effort.

Flack is from Oswego and in the past, has owned the No. 90 for Small Block Super veteran Greg O’Connor. Prior to the 2018 season, Flack decided he wanted to try it out for himself, and purchased the former Alex McRae No. 14.

“I knew going into last season, I was not going to run a full year,” Flack recalled. “After buying the car, we got it back to the shop and re-built it pretty much brand new around the cage. I felt the best way to learn was going out on the track with top of the line stuff.”

Prior to the track’s season opener in May, Flack indeed was able to get several laps under his belt and in rather quick order, found himself circling the Steel Palace within the mid to low 19 second bracket.

“It has been a tough learning curve,” Flack said of getting used to taking laps at the Oswego Speedway. “Last year, my goal was to just keep the car in one piece every night. We did not compete in all of the races, so I wanted to focus my time on learning and just rolling the car back into the hauler at the end of the show. It didn’t turn out to be too bad of a first year.”

This season, Flack again only plans to race select events and hopes to be at the track for six or seven shows. The difference this time around is that he will no longer be owning a car for a second driver, as O’Connor purchased the No. 90 from Flack this offseason.

“Greg did buy the No. 90 from me, so I no longer own that car,” Flack confirmed. “This year my plan is to focus on my own program. I want to wish Greg the best of luck. He is a good driver and I’m sure his goals of a track championship or Classic win might not be too far off.”

Entering his second year of part-time competition at Oswego, Flack emphasized the importance of veteran Small Block Super crewman Mike O’Connor’s role in pitching in to assist his team.

“Mikey O’Connor is a huge part of what I do,” Flack stated. “He worked with me this past season and if it wasn’t for him, I would have been lost. With him on my side, things went a lot smoother. I was very thankful to have his help for last season and hope to have him in my corner for 2019 as well. He has so much knowledge and is a great teacher.”

Flack’s goals on the track this year are perhaps to earn a couple top 5 and top 10 finishes amongst some other items.

“I would love to get a few top five runs under my belt,” he said. “A heat race win would be pretty cool, and a top ten in points for my second season would be nice as well, although that will be hard in only planning to run select shows. My biggest priority is just building week by week and rolling the car into the hauler again. I’m hoping for a great, safe season for everyone.”

In addition to mentioning Mike and Greg O’Connor, Flack also made sure to thank Andy O’Connor, Brian Dana, Dennis Munski, Tony Pisa, and AJ Larkin for “all of their help.”

Flack has several sponsors on the car as well, including primary backer Mike Burger of Burger Masonry along with Dave Burger of Burger Construction, Pathfinder Bank, Enwright Roofing, Cam’s Pizzeria, Munski Automotive, and Premiere Landscaping.

Oswego Speedway’s 69th season gets underway on Saturday, May 25 with Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s for the Novelis Supermodifieds plus full programs for the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers and the 350 Supermodifieds. An Open Practice session for all 2019 divisions will commence one week earlier on Saturday, May 18.

This weekend, the speedway will participate in the 33rd annual Syracuse Motorsports Expo held in the Center of Progress Building at the New York State Fairgrounds. The track will have a booth for each day of the event, and Barry Kingsley’s 350 Supermodified will be displayed.

Admission to this year’s Syracuse Motorsports Expo will be $13 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 years of age, and FREE for children under the age of five. A two day pass is available for $20. Expo hours will be 10am to 8pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
