WHAT: Fort Ontario Post Cemetery will join more than 2.500 location around the country and abroad in placing remembrance wreaths in front of all the veteran’s graves on National Wreaths Across America Day TM. The public is invited to the ceremony, starting at 12PM inside the old stone fort in front of the Enlisted Men’s Barracks. After the guest speakers are finished, the public will take part in the “Parade of Wreaths.” They will help escort the wreaths to the Post Cemetery where they will be placed in front of all the headstones. The ceremony will formally conclude at the entrance to the Post Cemetery with the reading of the names of those buried there, followed by a benediction, and finally the sounding of taps.

Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more than 2,500 veteran’s cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and overseas.
