Haborfest’s Children’s Committee is pleased to announce that the Oswego City County Youth Bureau and New York State Office of Children and Familiy Services has awarded a $1000.00 mini-grant to this year’s Harborfest Children’s Musical Production.
The funds will be used to help cover costs for the purchase of music, scripts and set materials.
Each year the crowds at the Children’s Stage in West Park are at capacity as the talented youngsters from the Oswego area are in the spotlight in the annual musical. This year marks the ninth annual musical production, as the play “Kilroy Was Here”, book by Tim Kelly, and music and lyrics by Bill Fracoeur, comes to Harborfest.
“Kilroy Was Here” is the story of a young G.I., Joe Kilroy, whose cartoon drawings help rout enemy spies who have infiltrated the USO club. The music and dance is straight out of the 1940’s featuring jitterbug and swing. It is an uplifting tale of American courage and determination.
The musical is under the direction of Bobbie Palange and Rocky Farden, with choreography designed by Jessica Goodnough of Creation Dance Studio in Oswego. Performances will be held under the Family Tent in West Park on Friday, July 29 at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 AM and at 2:30 PM, and on Sunday, July 31 at 11:00 AM.
Co-directors, Rocky Farden and Bobbie Palange, commented, “The Youth Bureau has provided funds for our production every year. The performers and we are so grateful for their continuing support.
Harborfest is one of the few admission-free music festivals in the country. It was founded with the mission of creating nationally recognized festivals and events that attract and engage a broad and diverse audience, celebrate and build community, and advance economic development in Oswego, New York. It would not be possible to continue the event without the massive continued support received from the City of Oswego, businesses, organizations, government entities, and individuals and family members.
