The Oswego Music Hall's Guest Curator Series returns on Saturday evening, February 17 with David Kaspar continuing the popular Jazz By The Lake series.
The Hot Club of Syracuse will take to the Music Hall's stage at 7:30 pm featuring the music of famed guitarist Django Rheinhart, a pioneer in the style of "gypsy jazz." Rheinhart and violinist Stéphane Grapelli were the leaders of Le Quintette Hot Club du France in 1930s Paris. They were among the first jazz bands to feature the guitar as the featured instrument.
The Hot Club of Syracuse features multi-instrumentalist Joe Davoli, guitarists Harvey Nusbaum, Carl Lovell, and Joe Ferlo, and bassist Matthew Vacanti.
David Kaspar, who also promotes jazz series in Camillus and Manlius, said, "For lovers of gypsy jazz, The Hot Club of Syracuse are the number one purveyors of the style."
Kaspar also speaks highly of the Hot Club's leader. "Joe Davoli absolutely dazzles audiences with his virtuosity on both violin and mandolin. "
Tom Lambert, artistic director of the Music Hall, said, "If you're a lover of jazz, and want to hear something a bit out of the ordinary, you owe it to yourself to check out The Hot Club of Syracuse!"
