A free public reception for the Central New York teaching artist will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in the Atrium building on Clinton Square.
"Myth: a traditional story, concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon ... typically involving supernatural beings or events," Peterson wrote in an artist's statement. "'I Myths,' then, are images that illustrate events or stories of an individual. Although these images are personal in nature, each viewer will bring to the images their own thoughts and interpretations. Who's to say what story or interpretation is true or correct? Maybe none, maybe all."
With a master's degree in art education from Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor of fine arts degree from Alfred University, Peterson enjoys pottery as well as sculpture, and prefers firing her pieces with the raku or soda techniques. Her work shows a love of nature, the outdoors and her personal connection to them.
Daytime hours for the free exhibition at SUNY Oswego Metro Center are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For evening and weekend hours, call 315-299-4100.
