DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday, October 27, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET)
and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations (OBCR) will g
ather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conferen
ce to be held at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego fro
m 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\n This day-long symposium is something you won’t w
ant to miss. Women employees and business owners need inspiration, ideas, i
nformation, and other women to network with. The theme for this year’s even
t is “Achieve – Inspire – Embrace Excellence” and will feature several dyna
mic speakers, networking opportunities, continental breakfast, lunch, and a
dessert reception. Following lunch, our speakers will participate in a pan
el Q&A.\nMelinda Miles, acting president of Film at Eleven and founder
of Manifest, a consulting firm, will present “Faith and Tattoos ― Living on
Purpose.” At the beginning of 2010, Melinda made a resolution to fully com
mit herself to graduate school and broadening her horizons. After a dozen y
ears of singular focus on Haiti, it was easier to count the times she had f
ailed – in work and her personal life – than to point out the successes. Bu
t when a massive earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th, Melinda was faced wi
th choosing between the path she had worked so hard to carve out and the co
untry that captured her being and would never let go. It turned out that th
ere wasn’t even a decision to make. Despite the advice of many, she packed
up her three-year old son and moved into a tent in Port-au-Prince.\nHow do
you keep going in the face of failure? Self-doubt is powerful and can even
be paralyzing, however, being grounded in purpose can keep you moving forwa
rd no matter what obstacles you face. Let her share with you the story of a
white girl from Massachusetts who found her true place in Haiti and came t
o realize that sometimes passion and faith are one and the same.\nAgain thi
s year, headshots will be offered by Dayger Photography, with no sitting fe
e. Free hair and make-up touch-ups will also be available.\nAlso returning
this year is Bee-Hive Networking, a business building activity that allows
you to find exactly what you are looking for in a very short period of time
. There are no elevator speeches, no selling, and no fears or discomforts.
Each attendee could walk away with an average of 12-20 cards of QUALIFIED p
rospects who want to meet them. Come "catch the buzz" with Bee-Hive Network
ing. Please be sure to come armed with 100 business cards.\nSponsors to dat
e include SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, Women’s
Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET), Operation Oswego County, and
Mitchell’s Speedway Press.\nRegistration and tickets for Connections are av
ailable through Operation Oswego County at www.oswegocounty.org/Connections
/tickets.html.\nFor more information, contact Evelyn LiVoti, Connections’ c
o-chair, at 343.1545 or elivoti@oswegocounty.org (mailto:elivoti@oswegocoun
