ers will hold its 9th Annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble® Fest. One of O
swego County’s most entertaining fund raisers, Scrabble® Fest offers devote
es of the game Scrabble® the opportunity to enjoy an evening of friendly co
mpetition, and more. “Scrabble® Fest is much more than just another fund ra
iser,” said Meg Henderson, coordinator of Oswego County Opportunities’ (OCO
) Literacy Volunteers Program.
“Scrabble® Fest is also a way
to raise awareness of Literacy Volunteers and our efforts to combat the is
sue of illiteracy in Oswego County. Literacy Volunteers offers the opportun
ity for adult students to develop the literary skills and computer skills n
ecessary for daily activities, gaining employment, and more,” explained Hen
derson.
Scrabble® Fest takes place from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at
Elks Lodge #271, 132 West 5th Street, Oswego. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and
games will begin at 6:30 p.m. Teams of four will compete against each other
with the top three teams awarded prizes.

mand for Scrabble® Fest 2015 are the “Golden Tiles” which teams can purchas
e to help them earn additional points for their team score. Teams will be a
ble to purchase a limited number of ‘Golden Tiles’ which will play as a bla
nk tile and can be used for the letter of their choice. “We will also be aw
arding an additional 100 points to the team who obtains the highest pledge
amount,” explained Henderson.
New for 2015 are the “Exchange
a Tile” Tokens. Teams can purchase up to one token per round of play. If y
ou get a tray with all vowels, or you’re stuck with that pesky Q, you can t
urn in a token and dump and replace as many tiles as you like without losin
g your team’s turn at play. One token may be used per round of play.
In addition to the Scrabble® competition Henderson said that there
will be raffles, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and other fun activities to
help support Literacy Volunteers.
Entry fee for a team of 4
is $100 and includes light refreshments. The cost for individuals wishing t
o attend but not compete in the event is $15 (this fee includes light refre
shments). All proceeds from Scrabble® Fest will benefit OCO Literacy Volunt
