SUMMARY:Import From Zap Calendar 12212022 - The Art of Quilting
URL;VALUE=URI:https://iheartoswego.com/14218/the-art-of-quilting.html?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION:Our Nature Inspires series at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Centerc
ontinues on Sunday November 29th at 2:00 pm, when Audrey Scruton, Oswego Co
unty artist, will instruct a class on the Art of Quilling.\nQuilling or pap
er filigree is the art form of cutting and rolling narrow strips of paper i
nto coils of several sizes to create designs. Strips of paper are curled, t
wisted and manipulated by fingers or tools. The process, which dates back t
o at least the 13th Century, originated with religious orders who used the
gilded edges of old manuscripts to decorate religious artifacts. It is beli
eved the paper was curled around the base of a quill (or feather), hence th
e name quilling. Today, this art form is resurging in popularity with some
modern day techniques and tools.\nGuest artist, Audrey Scruton, a resident
of Oswego, NY and owner of Audrey Elizabeth Creations, began quilling in el
ementary school when she first created a flower magnet for her Grandma. Rep
airing that magnet in February 2014 reignited her passion for the old art.
Since then she has gone on to do craft shows, as well as teach classes at t
he Oswego Public Library. In August 2015, Audrey became a member of the Nor
th American Quilling Guild.\nRegistration for this workshop is $24, and att
endees will be provided all supplies and tools, which they will keep. Advan
ce registration is required since seating is limited. To register for this
program or for more information about the Center and other programs, please
contact Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County 4-H Program at 963-
7286.\nNature Inspires is made possible with funds from the Decentralizatio
n Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with
the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York Legislature and admi
nistered by CNY Arts. The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center is locat
ed at 748 State Route 183 in Amboy, between Routes 69 and 13 near Williamst
own in eastern Oswego County. Cornell Cooperative Extension is an employer
