book bridges the gap between her love of reading, writing, art, Oswego, an
d her four adorable guinea pigs. Her passion for all these things has helpe
d her weave an exciting tale about her fluffy, funny guinea pig named Kirby
. Kirby has several exciting adventures around the City of Oswego while loo
king for his sister, Maggie, who is lost while searching for carrots. Kirby
travels by way of a superfast, carrot skateboard and visits some of Oswego
’s most famous landmarks, including, Fort Ontario, Charles E. Gallagher Poo
l, Oswego Public Library, Oswego Speedway, Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-in, SUNY O
swego, and Breitbeck Park of Harborfest fame. A handful of Oswego High Scho
ol Marching Buccaneers make an appearance, also.

“The writing and illustrating of this book was a lot of fun,”
stated Germain. “I have always wanted to write and illustrate a children’s
book. The question always was what would it be about. When I got my guinea
pigs over a year ago, the answer became very clear because they are so funn
y and full of personality. A little adventure around their hometown of Oswe
go seemed in order. Even though Kirby is the main character, Maggie, Toby,
and Mollie are very important to the story, as well. They bring home the id
ea of family and simple pleasures that I think Oswego is famous for.”
<p
