This program is open to all girls and boys ages 12 to 19 who are interested in shotgun, muzzleloading, or rifle. The programs will be conduc ted as a six-week course concluding with a combined field day in August. Th e Summer Shooting Sports Sampler program will be held on Wednesday nights f rom 6-8 PM beginning July 11th. The first two weeks will be held at Lock St ock and Barrel in Volney, and the final four weeks will be at Leatherstocki ng in New Haven. Youth do not need to have previous experienc e or own firearms to participate in this hands-on learning experience. The Oswego County 4-H Program and its instructors, certified through the New Yo rk State 4-H Shooting Sports Program, will provide all firearms and necessa ry equipment. The instructors are volunteers who are chosen for their abili ty to teach and their skill at relating to youth.
A program fee of $3 0.00 will be charged to cover the cost of materials and eye and ear protect ion. Partial scholarships are available through a donation from the Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. Space is limited therefore registra tion is necessary, and parental or guardian permission is mandatory.
The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is valuable for helping youth develop self- confidence, personal discipline, responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem and sportsmanship. The program also provides a positive experience for youth an d promotes firearm safety. Please note the Oswego County Shooting Sports pr ogram is not a hunter safety education program.
