Fort Ontario Post Cemetery Lantern Tours are b ack by popular demand for FIVE nights!
Post Historian Corey King will guide visitors by lantern light on a walking tour of the Fort Ontario Post Cemetery.Tours will begin at 7:00PM at the Lake Ontario overlook parking l ot at Fort Ontario State Historic Site.
Lantern light tours will incl ude the history, myths and legends of the 77 people buried in the Post Ceme tery from the French and Indian War through WWII. King will also discuss th e headstones, and earlier graveyards at the fort. Popular and well known po st cemetery residents such as Basil Dunbar and George Fykes will be include d on the tours as well as others who met their end in battle, murder, disea se, drowning, accident, suicide, natural and other causes.
Reservatio ns for the tours are required in advance; tickets cost $15 per-person and a re available for purchase in the museum shop inside the old stone fort duri ng normal business hours or by phone (315-343-4711). All proceeds benefit t he activities and educational programs of the not-for-profit group Friends of Fort Ontario.
