DESCRIPTION:\nFire trucks are a staple in every American city and for a majority of chi
ldren everywhere something of awe and excitement. “The popularity of firefi
ghters and fire engines among children is nearly universal.”\nAn enormously
popular illustrator, American artist Norman Rockwell specialized in warm a
nd humorous scenes of everyday small-town life. The cover of The Saturday E
vening Post was Norman Rockwell's showcase for over forty years, giving him
an audience larger than that of any other artist in history. His 1971 illu
stration "The New American LaFrance Is Here!" captured the moment of a new
engine's arrival. Showing his hometown Victorian firehouse in Stockbridge,
Massachusetts, Rockwell conveyed the excitement in the town, showing childr
en-and even adults-rushing to see the modern fire engine. Next to it is the
retired 1920s-era pumper.\nOn the Thursday, November 21, Mayor Billy Barlo
w and members of the City Council will join the public in welcoming the Cit
y of Oswego’s new ladder truck, Truck 2. Truck #2 is a 2019 Sutphen Corpora
tion SL75 made in Columbus, Ohio and replaces a 1988 Emergency-One.\nThe ev
ent and celebration is open to the public at Oswego Fire Headquarters, 35 E
ast Cayuga Street at 10:00AM.\n This event was imported from: https://ihear
