The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) continues distribution of the annual farmers’ market coupon booklets at some area farmers’ markets this week.

Next week, the agency will begin handing out a second farmers’ market coupon book to eligible seniors.

OFA will be at the following markets:

  • Oswego Farmers’ Market, West First Street, Thursday, Sept. 11, 4:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Fulton Farmers’ Market, Canalview Mall parking lot, NYS Rte. 481, Saturday, Sept. 13, 8 a.m. to noon.

On Monday, Sept. 15, qualifying seniors can pick up a second farmers’ market coupon book at the Oswego County Health Department entrance, 70 Bunner St., Oswego, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, until all booklets are gone.

The farmers’ market coupons may only be used to buy locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables from participating farmers’ markets and farmers. The value of each booklet is $25.00.

All New York State residents aged 60 and over whose gross income is at or below 185% of federal poverty guidelines ($2,413.00 monthly for a one-person household or $3,261.00 monthly for a two-person household) will be eligible to participate in the program. Each older adult in a household is eligible to receive a booklet if they meet the age and income requirements.

There are a limited number of coupon booklets available therefore distribution will be on a first come, first served basis.  Each older adult in a household is eligible to receive a booklet if they meet the age and income requirements. Eligible older adults must sign in person, although a Power of Attorney with proper paperwork can also sign for the coupons.

A proxy may pick up the coupons if the eligible senior completes the proxy form and attestation form. The proxy form and the attestation form can be obtained by calling OFA in advance at 315-349-3484. A proxy form does not guarantee a coupon booklet as it is based on availability.

If you have any questions regarding the farmers’ market coupon booklets, please call the Office for the Aging at 315-349-3484, Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
