The City of Oswego honored the life, legacy, and musical influence of beloved community musician David Sterio this past Saturday, November 29th, with the official dedication of the David A. Sterio Memorial Stage during the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The emotional event brought together family, friends, community leaders, fellow musicians, and residents to celebrate Sterio’s profound impact on Oswego’s music scene.

Mayor Rob Corradino led the ceremony and unveiled the new signage prominently displayed across the front of the structure: David A. Sterio Memorial Stage.

In addition, the city installed a commemorative plaque inside the stage honoring his contribution to Oswego’s musical heritage. The plaque reads:
“In loving memory of an accomplished musician whose dedication and passion helped preserve the rich musical heritage of Oswego, New York.”
For more than four decades, David Sterio was a cornerstone of Oswego’s music community. An accomplished musician Sterio played the saxophone and clarinet, performed throughout Central New York and was known for his dedication to mentoring fellow musicians, supporting youth performers, and bringing people together through music. His influence on local music, especially through the Oswego County Music Union, City Band, Jazz Band and other area concerts/plays remains immeasurable.

During the ceremony, David’s wife, Jill Sterio, delivered heartfelt remarks on behalf of their family. Standing beside her was Annette Hurlbut, who succeeded David as President of the Oswego County Music Union following his passing.

Jill shared her family’s gratitude and the deep meaning behind the dedication:
“On behalf of my family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the City of Oswego for dedicating the city stage in honor of my late husband, David A. Sterio. The David A. Sterio Memorial Stage is a beautiful tribute to his life, his passion, and his dedication to music in the City of Oswego and the community he loved so much. Thank you to everyone who made this dedication possible. Your support and recognition mean more than words can convey. Knowing that David’s legacy will continue to inspire, uplift, and bring people together through music is a blessing our family will cherish forever.”
Jill also offered special thanks to Mayor Rob Corradino, DPW Commissioner Craig Rebeor, and the many city staff and supporters who worked to bring the dedication to life.

With its prominently displayed signage and commemorative plaque, the David A. Sterio Memorial Stage will continue to serve as a living tribute to his enduring love of music and community.
