Oswego County Joins Statewide STOP-DWI Effort

Memorial Day Campaign runs May 22-25 –

Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that law enforcement agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state will participate in a special effort to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

The state’s STOP-DWI Memorial Day “High Visibility Engagement Campaign” runs from Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25.

“Memorial Day traditionally marks the start of summer and the season for gatherings like barbeques, graduation parties and weddings,” Hall said.  “That means that there are more people on the roads this time of year and, because many of these events often involve the use of alcohol, there is also an increase in alcohol-related injuries and deaths.

“We urge those who plan to consume alcohol or any other mind-altering substance to have a plan before you start,” he continued. “Have a designated driver, call a taxi, or walk home – just please, don’t drive. Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning.”

Everyone can help make a difference by having a sober plan. Simply download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, which provides them with a safe ride home.

This joint campaign is just one of the many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. Other high visibility engagement campaigns target the 100 Days of Summer, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the winter holiday season, the Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day and 420 Drug Day.
