Historic Jim Shampine Drive, which connects Route 104 to East Albany Street just in front of Oswego Speedway, will be re-dedicated in honor of the late Speedway champion this Saturday, Aug. 3, prior to the running of the 27th annual Mr. Novelis Supermodified event.

All of the Oswego and open-wheel racing community is invited to the re-dedication at 10 a.m., Saturday, on the corner of East Albany Street and Jim Shampine Drive.
Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen, Speedway representatives, as well as Mike D'Amico and Jim Paternoster will be on hand to re-dedicate the road and unveil the brand new street signs designed by Paternoster. D'Amico and Paternoster stand at the forefront of the re-dedication along with help from Pathfinder Bank, Oswego Speedway and others.
Paternoster's newly designed Jim Shampine Drive signs are one of a kind with the added flare of airbrush artist Matthew Hubbard of Airbrush Plus. Each sign, located at either end of Jim Shampine Drive, will feature two of Shampine's most historical racing machines in airbrush form.
As a part of the re-dedication, Paternoster also has plans to display Shampine's restored 'wedge' Supermodified, the most prolific of Shampine's designs that took him to his first International Classic victory in 1970.
Shampine is the all-time leader in Supermodified wins at Oswego Speedway with 87, was a seven-time Speedway track champion, and a three-time winner of the prestigious Budweiser International Classic. The driver of the famed 8-ball Supermodified and Modified, lost his life at the Speedway during the 1982 running of the Budweiser Modified 200.
Following the re-dedication, everyone in attendance is welcomed to meet at Lighthouse Lanes on Jim Shampine Drive for refreshments.
