She earned a master’s degree in German studies from the University of Vienna. Johanna emigrated to the United States in 1959. She taught German, English, and Latin at various schools.
At Colgate University she was the first woman professor of German. She also taught at St. Lawrence University, Oswego City School District, Liverpool Schools, and SUNY Oswego.
She loved music and was a founding member of the Oswego Opera Theater. Most of all, as a lifelong lover of animals, Johanna was most proud to be a founding member of the Oswego County Humane Society.
She is survived by many close friends both in Vienna and the United States.
A memorial service will be held on March 28th at 11 am at the Hall Newman Center, SUNY Oswego.
