Lakeside Artisans welcomes Bonnie Sommers to their group of artists whose work is available for purchase at their shop located in Canal Commons at 191 West First Street.

Bonnie is a long time resident of Volney who has been creating art in a variety of media since she was a child. The daughter of a cartoonist and a painter, she says this gift for artistic expression runs in the family. Her son is also a musician and visual artist.

Sommers' interest in wildlife, especially birds, has led her to portray them in many different forms. Her display consists of several medium-sized oval paintings and a variety of pendants and pins, each of which is an original miniature painting.

Sommers has no formal art training and when she started painting birds she used photos from magazines and books. As she developed her technique and ability, and with the encouragement of her son, she started taking her own photos of local wildlife. Sommers' interest in aviary art has also led to her involvement in the rescue and nurture of several swans in the area. She says, "Folks call me 'the swan lady' ".

Lakeside Artisans is open from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 4pm on Sunday. For more information, please visit us at our website www.lakesideartisans.com and/or facebook.
