Dr. Kestas Bendinskas, editor of The American Journal of Undergraduate Research, conducted demonstrations with chemical reactions that captivated the students. The demonstrations reinforced concepts of using the Scientific Method.

For the past six-weeks, the 5th graders in Mr. Hartmann and Mr. Wiegand's classes learned informational text with the guiding question in mind, "How do scientists learn about the natural world and communicate what they learn?" This question was put in to real world context with Dr. Bendinskas's tour of the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Center (MBBC) and gathering of data.

SUNY Oswego's planetarium was also showcased during the visit, with a demonstration by the planetarium's director Dr. Scott Roby. He presented findings from recent NASA missions designed to gather evidence about comets, as well as what we know about the galaxy and beyond.

According to Hartmann, the trip was a great success, and is a testament to the outstanding facilities and dedicated professors at SUNY Oswego.
