The Desens House (www.desenshouse.org) was awarded $25,000 from the Shineman Foundation (https://shinemanfoundation.org/) to support their women’s recovery house.
The Shineman Foundation grant was awarded to cover further building costs as demolition and renovation continues for the Desens House.
The Desens House is a faith-based, community driven model for recovery that is specifically focused on supporting women struggling with Substance Use Disorder. The Nook, a resource center for women in recovery, will be housed on the first floor of the building. The second floor will support the long-term residency program, where two women in recovery will live alongside two sober living companions. Currently, there is no long-term women’s recovery housing in Oswego City. Although progress with renovation had stalled due to delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic and backed up contracting needs, the Desens House has had a devoted crew working away at the final renovations needed to open the doors. The Desens House is hopeful to open the Nook and the residency program by summer of 2023. Currently, the Desens House is providing a variety of weekly nonclinical recovery supports.
