Margaret (Marcely) Raby, a lifelong resident of Oswego, passed away at the age of 94, Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, after a short illness.
Her full life included raising five children with her husband, John, who preceded her in death in 2000, Kathleen (Francis) Zaryski and Robert (Susan) Raby, of Oswego; Marjorie (David) Frost and Charles Raby, of Colorado Springs; and John (Patricia) Raby, of Baltimore.
Marg enjoyed, playing bridge, gardening, and sewing. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Oswego Garden Club. For many years, Marg operated the Avenue Yarn Shoppe, taught classes and helped numerous college girls knit that first boyfriend sweater. Marg (Miggsy) was short in statue but the force of her personality is remembered by all who knew her.
During their retirement years, she and John divided their time between Oswego and Flagler Beach, Fla. While they enjoyed escaping the harsh winter months and visits from family and friends, they were always anxious to return to the beautiful spring and summer seasons up north.
Marg's extended family includes 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two nieces, Ann Hoefer and Louise Alferi, both of Oswego.
Her family wish to express their appreciation and thanks to the many friends and neighbors who enriched her life and to the caretakers who assisted her in her final years.
Services marking her passing will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary's Church, West Seventh Street, Oswego; or the John Foster Burden Fund, 299 East River Road, Oswego, NY 13126.
