Join the environmental educator at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center for a variety of spring-themed programs taking place in the month of May. Starting on Sunday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m., get ready to go Wild for Wildlife! Now that it's spring, there are so many different amphibians, reptiles, and mammals wandering around our county and our woods. The environmental educator will discuss the wildlife that can be found at Amboy, then lead a guided walk through the trails to try and find these animals. The group may catch frogs or salamanders, run into the newly hatched goslings, or spot the resident beavers working on their dam. Our educators at the Center are wild for wildlife and hope you are too!
On Friday, May 10th at 6:30 p.m., an evening hike around Beaver Marsh Trail will take place. This trail follows Beaver Marsh Pond and the popular observation deck, which highlights the different wetland animals and habitat that can be found throughout Oswego County. If you listen closely, you’ll be able to hear the calls of spring peepers and other frog species that are out this time of year. Even though birds and mammals are settling down for the evening, the pond will still be buzzing with excitement!
Lastly, on Sunday, May 19th at 10:00 a.m., make your own nature inspired pinch pot. Pinch pots are an easy way to make a beautiful piece of pottery! Simply pinch the clay into the shape desired by using your hands and fingers. Air dry clay will be used to create nature themed pinch pots. Participants will be able to collect pine needles, pinecones, flowers, and more to create patterns and indents on their pot that will truly make them one of a kind! Registration is required for this program as space is limited - youth and adults are welcome to sign up. Registration can be found on the CCE website: https://thatscooperativeextension.org/events. The fee for these programs is only $4 per person, or $12 for a family. Children under the age of three are free! The recommended age for these programs is 5+.

Even if you are unable to attend the programs, trails at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. There is no parking fee, and there is a map of the trails when you arrive.
