A recent meeting of the Oswego County Salvation Army Advisory Board welcomed new officers who were appointed to the Corps as of the first of July.

They are Lieutenants Michael and Cassidy Dow. Oswego is their second appointment since completing Salvation Army training school. They previously served as corps officers at Saratoga Springs for two years.

Lt. Michael, originally from Bangor, Maine, grew up in The Salvation Army, so he was familiar with its many services and challenges before deciding to become an officer. Lt. Cassidy also had a long experience with the Army, including meeting her future husband there.

The Dows have expressed desires to see the Oswego County Salvation Army expand its worship services, offer more soup kitchen meals in both Fulton and Oswego, and secure more funding that could extend the services of the Pathway of Hope program from the current 20 families to as many as 60 families in the future. It is a two-year program that offers education and skill development to help break the cycle of poverty and enable people to become self-supporting.

The Oswego County Salvation Army Corps provides fresh-cooked meals Monday through Friday, 11:15 a.m. — 12:15 p.m., in both Fulton and Oswego, groceries from its food pantries open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, winter garments, and many other services to individuals and families in need throughout Oswego County. Over the first 5 months of this year, the Corps’ monthly average has been 731 soup kitchen meals in Oswego and 524 in Fulton; providing 109 Oswego households with groceries for 2,576 meals and 97 Fulton households with groceries for 2,394 meals. It also distributed over 1,600 loaves of bread and pastries each month.

Persons wishing to know more about The Salvation Army or to offer voluntary service are invited to call (315) 343-6491 or stop at the office at 73 West Second Street in Oswego, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
