Write a commentThe Oswego Children's Theater teen ensemble will present the one act drama “A Thousand Cranes” a the Micheal J. Harms Festival in Auburn.
“A Thousand Cranes”, by Katheryn Schultz Miller, tells the story of Sadako Saski a 12 year old Japanese Girl who after surviving the atomic bomb dropped at Hiroshima, finds she has radiation sickness several years after the event.
At the hospital her friend Kenji reminds her of an old story that if a sick person folds a thousand cranes the gods will make them healthy again. With her friends and family's help she proceeds make the cranes. As if in a dream she crafts a giant crane who seems to come to life to fly her up to the mountain to visit her ancestors.
The cast of five includes Sydney Osbourne, as Sadako, Lannie Osbourne, as Kenji, Alexa Bell, as Mother, Scott Swindells-Lepage, as Father, and Carolynne Benedetto, as Grandmother.
The show will utilize various Japanese styles in the production including traditional Kabuki theater and Noh drama techniques.
The production is directed by Lyndsie Lee Jones assisted by Kelly and Wayne Mosher. And is presented by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing,
The show will be presented locally Wednesday April 3 at 7p.m. at the Roy Mcrobie Civic Center in Oswego. There will be a $5 charge at the door. April; 6th the show will be performed at the Micheal J. Harms Theater Festival held at the Auburn campus of Cayuga Community College.
Sponsored by CNY Arts the Harms festival features a number of area theater groups each performing a one act play for adjudication. The troupes are judged on both the acting and technical aspects of the show. In addition the festival awards scholarships for outstanding performance. The day also includes workshops on various aspects of the dramatic arts.
