The 15th annual BeVard Teen Theater Festival, which takes place Friday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the BeVard Theater in the Syracuse OnCenter, will feature performances by the Media Unit and Oswego Children’s Theater.
Adjudicated by central New York theater professionals, awards will be made for best performance by a group, best performance by an individual from each group and best technical achievement.
Produced annually by the Media Unit, the BeVard has hosted teen theater groups from New York to New Orleans, from Whitesburg, Kentucky to Jackson, Miss.
The Media Unit’s entry, "From the Back of the Bus," which explores racism and racial healing among teens, has been cited with an NAACP Community Service Award and Syracuse University’s Martin Luther King Award.
Oswego Children’s Theater won this year’s CNY Arts Michael Harms Theater Festival with ALKY, focused on teen alcoholism.
