Members of OCYO are serious student musicians who have fun playing quality music with other like-minded musicians. The group has traditionally consisted of high school students, but middle school students are considered based on ability. Members have consistently qualified for All County and All State Orchestra, been concert masters and principal players in their respective school districts, and received college scholarships for both academics and music. Some have entered a performance track and others have become music teachers.
An exciting announcement, OCYO has decided to invite wind instrument and percussion musicians to join the strings as well. OCYO will be holding auditions this January. Student musician’s grades 7-12 that scored Level 3 and higher for NYSSMA are encouraged to apply. Many members have consistently qualified for All-State and All-County, often are principal players in their respective school districts orchestra, with a desire to advance further in their musical abilities with OCYO and study under the direction of Dr. Juan Francisco La Manna. As OCYO performs thru their season, they were approached by Symphoria of Syracuse to open for them at some of their concerts, a real honor. Applicants can apply online and for more info visit OCYO’s web site: www.ocyo.org
