More than 60 colleges and universities will have displays and representatives on hand to talk with prospective students and their families from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Oswego County`s first College Fair. The event, organized by the Oswego County Counselors Association in conjunction with SUNY Oswego, will take place in the arena and convocation hall of SUNY Oswego`s Campus Center.

"We are hoping that providing an evening college fair in Oswego County will encourage students and their parents to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about colleges of interest," said Lisa Roman, Oswego High School counselor and president of the Oswego County Counselors Association.

Dan Griffin, director of admissions at SUNY Oswego, said he feels the timing is right for students beginning their college search.

"Now more than ever higher education is a 'family affair.' Hosting this event in the evening will hopefully allow families to begin the process together," Griffin said. He noted that all age groups and all families from Central New York are welcome to attend.

College admissions representatives from dozens of public and private higher education institutions, both from within New York and from beyond the state, will be available to answer questions from students and their families.

In addition, two 30-minute information sessions will be offered giving advice on how to navigate the college application process. And SUNY Oswego financial aid experts will staff a booth helping families learn about how to pay for college.
