The Oswego County Opportunities Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding and Lactation Friendly New York (OCOBFFNY) program is making a significant impact on the community by fostering a supportive environment for new parents.

The vibrant energy at the recent Community Baby Shower, a testament to the dedication of the Oswego County Breastfeeding Coalition and its remarkable network of 23 community partners, underscores the profound impact of the OCOBFFNY program. This collaborative event, hosted at Catholic Charities, wasn't just a gathering; it was a powerful demonstration of a community united in its commitment to supporting breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and overall family well-being, drawing an impressive 157 attendees.

More than just a celebratory occasion, the Community Baby Shower served as a vital conduit for connecting new and expectant parents with invaluable resources. Each participating organization generously shared educational materials and offered helpful giveaways, ensuring families left feeling more informed and empowered on their feeding and parenting journeys. The supportive atmosphere, enhanced by music, refreshments, giveaways and an abundance of raffles – a remarkable 57 in total – fostered a sense of community and celebration. Every attendee received a gift, a tangible symbol of the collective care within Oswego County.

OCOBFFNY played a central role in the event's success. Their interactive trivia wheel effectively educated attendees on breastfeeding laws, empowering them with knowledge of their rights and resources. Additionally, OCOBFFNY distributed essential items like Haakaas, washcloths, buttons, and stickers, along with crucial breastfeeding resources. The organization also enriched the event with raffled prizes, including breastfeeding pillows, cover-ups, breast pumps with children's books, and breastfeeding bags filled with pumping necessities.

The success of this Community Baby Shower is a shining example of OCOBFFNY's far-reaching influence. By fostering strong collaborations and directly engaging with the community, OCOBFFNY is cultivating an environment where breastfeeding and chestfeeding are not only supported but celebrated. This initiative truly highlights OCOBFFNY's dedication to creating a lactation-friendly New York, one supportive event and one empowered family at a time. The impact of OCOBFFNY's efforts was clearly demonstrated in a follow-up survey. Attendees specifically recognized OCOBFFNY for their role in increasing awareness of breastfeeding laws. This event represents a resounding success for Oswego County, showcasing the power of community collaboration in supporting new families and promoting breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation.
