The Oswego Festival Chorus, Oswego State Singers, and the OHS Chamber will present a choral concert on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 7:30 pm at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and Shrine in Oswego. Free will donations will be accepted.
A Light in the Darkness will feature Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and other works by John Rutter, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Charles Wood, Knut Nystedt, Ola Gjeillo, and Gustaf Nordqvist.
According to Dr. Ben May, SUNY Oswego professor and choral conductor, this concert is intended to try and shed some light and hope during this particularly challenging time in our world.
With at least two major wars raging in Europe and the Middle East, the world seems to be in such a dark place right now, May stated. In contrast to this sentiment, we are singing choral music that instead focuses on comfort and hope. Whether it is the mighty anthem "Hail Gladdening Light" by Charles Wood, joyful carol settings by John Rutter, or the sublime Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen, we hope that each piece of music will serve as a pinpoint of light for any souls who are weary of the darkness that surrounds us.
This semester, SUNY Oswego is partnering with Oswego High School singers and faculty to present this concert to the public.
According to May, We are fortunate to be joined for the concert by the Oswego High School Chamber Singers, under the direction of Robert Dumas, and look forward to providing an evening of entertainment for the Oswego community.
