With the cancellation, the Kartway's first rain date will now be utilized, moving Gater Racing News Night at the Races to Friday, May 16.
"We learned a lesson last Friday night (April 18)," said Dan Kapuscinski, Oswego Kartway promoter. "While the grounds one week ago were barely sufficient to allow some haulers in, the rain we got last Friday made for a lousy evening when it came to getting everyone back out of the pit area. The grounds are still wet, and nearly all weather models show more rain coming in between 7-8pm tonight, right when we would begin heat racing. We aim to give everyone an enjoyable experience, not get people stuck. We have built in rain dates for reasons such as this, and we will come back next Friday, May 2 and now also on Friday, May 16."
Racing on Friday, May 2 will mark the first event counting toward the Oswego Kartway Driver Rewards program, featuring two brand new Slack Xpect racing chassis from Root Racing Enterprises and Performance Manufacturing, which will be awarded to two lucky drivers at the season ending championship banquet.
A 14 division racing card will be on the docket for Friday night, including a new junior racing division.
Jr. Purple Clone will be added to the racing schedule as a middle ground between Jr. Green Clone and Jr. Blue Clone. The Jr. Purple class will run at 275 lbs. with drivers ranging in ages between 7-11 years old.
Other junior classes include Sr. Blue Clone and Gold Plate flathead.
Senior racing divisions will include Stock Light, Stock Heavy, Stock 425, Clone Light, Clone Heavy, Clone 425, BSP Clone (open pipe, open clutch), Open, and Champ Kart.
Pit gates will open for competitors on May 2 beginning at 4:30pm with hot laps scheduled to hit the Kartway at 6:30pm. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm
Entry fees for Kartway members will be set at $15 while non-member entry fees are $18, with pit passes included. Pit passes will also be available for spectators for just $10.
Friday night's racing program will see heat race lineups determined by a pill draw, with feature lineups starting straight up from heat race finishes.
As always spectators are welcome to come to the Kartway and enjoy the racing action with a full concession stand available.
Kartway events run April through September on most Friday nights, culminating with the Fall Frenzy 200 Championships on Saturday, September 20.
